‘Darling Dambakku’ is the mantra that most young people have been chanting since the release of Hansika’s last film, Maan Karate. She has been the darling of the masses as it’s not very common to find someone who is both beautiful and good-hearted. Hansika has been actively involved in social work and charity, but silently, privately.

Her journey as an actress began with the famous serial, Shakalaka Boom Boom. Ever since she debuted in Kollywood with Maapillai, there has been no looking back for her, what with bagging offers from all the top heroes. In this tete-a-tete with DC, Hansika talks about her next film, Romeo Juliet, directed by Lakshman, the secret of losing weight in a short span of time and how her ‘good heart’ is a genetic endowment.

Hansika is now busy with more than four films in the bag, with filmmakers believing her to be the lucky charm of K’town. Hansika pairs opposite Jayam Ravi for the second time after Prabhudeva’s Engeyum Kadhal. The bubbly actress says that the title of the film doesn’t mean it has a sad ending as it’s a romantic comedy.

“The hero and heroine of the film fall head over heels in love with each other, then fight on a frequent basis, and in fact, want to kill each other for love. (She laughs.) It’s a perfect romantic comedy, with its own taste and flavour. And of course, it has a happy ending.”

The film was recently shot in a star hotel in the city. The director of the film, Lakshman, wanted Hansika very much for this role.

“Lakshman sir was particular about casting me as the female lead. It’s a very performance oriented role and has a different characterisation altogether.” The music of the film is composed by D. Imman.

Talking about pairing with Jayam Ravi for the second time, she says, “I know him from the time we shot Engeyum Kadhal, and he is very dear to me. I would say Jayam Ravi is a good human and very childlike. I am happy to work with him again.”

Hansika is also working with Arya, for her next film, Maegamann, which is a complete action flick, with a racy screenplay.

“I play the role of an arrogant and self-centred girl. As the film is of a rough and tough kind, I am the only colourful part of the film and that’s what even the director said while narrating the script to me,” she says. The film is directed by Magizh Thirumeni.

Wearing her bubbly, happy-go-lucky persona well, would Hansika consider taking on a dark role?

“It’s the way directors look at me,” she says. “If somebody were to come along with a good script dealing with a dark subject, and if they think I would suit their script, I would definitely try my hand at it. Everything depends on the director and the roles being offered to me.”

There were reports recently that the actress was mobbed by fans in Goa while shooting for a song with debutant, Siddharth, which the actress dismisses as mere rumour.

“I was not even shooting in Goa at that time. Only a month back I was shooting for Arya’s Maegamann there, and no one mobbed me.” Hansika says that a few miscreants in the industry claim to be her manager, giving false information about her commitments. “I have no manager. The only person who looks after my film dates and manages everything is my mother,” she quips.

Her relationship with the famous Kollywood star, Simbu, was also making news, with fans speculating endlessly about whether they were together or not. It was Simbu who then officially made an announcement to the media on his social networking page that he was no more in a relationship with her. So, was marriage on the cards at all?

“Right now I am concentrating on my career, and I don’t want to get into a relationship. But definitely, I still believe in love, and good things will always happen in my life,” she says.

Hansika has been shooting for Vaalu for more than two years in which she pairs opposite Simbu.

“It’s been getting delayed due to some minor issues. But the film has come out really well, especially the songs, as it has some very unique visual concepts which have never been attempted before in the industry.” The music of the film is composed by Thaman, and the film is directed by Vijay Chandra. The cinematography of the film is done by Shakthi.

Her films apart, Hansika believes in working for the welfare of society, an activity that her family has espoused for years over generations. She has adopted 25 kids, and has been taking care of their education, shelter and food.

“I don’t speak about this as I regard it a private affair. My mother, Mona Motwani, has been doing this  from a young age. I started adopting kids the moment I started earning on my own. My grandmother also did it,” she says.

Coming to more mundane matters, like her weight loss, Hansika says that there are many modes of gaining relief from stress.

“Different people do different things to divert themselves from things that worry them. I paint. I play squash — been playing since the age of 15, and that is the reason for my weight loss and stress relief,” she says, with excitement.

The actress is now shooting for Sundar.C’s Aranmanai, which is almost over. The film has her playing a village girl with superpowers, it’s being called a one-of-a-kind fantasy film. “It’s a well-scripted comedy horror, probably the biggest in my career yet,” she says.

The film has Vinay Rai, Lakshmi Rai and Andrea Jeriemiah playing important roles. The music of the film is given by Bharadwaj.
